Pine Mtn, Snow, and the Holidays . . .yummy!

December is here! It's cold outside. There is snow snuggled beneath trees. Holiday lights are going up and trees start to fill the empty spaces behind windows. . . and I know that somewhere inside each of these little cabins there are treats to be eaten.

​My mother was an awful cook. She tried on occasion but those occasions were few and far between. Had she had more practice perhaps she would have been better. But she seldom tried and therefore the results of her efforts rest somewhere between "inedible" and "awful," that is all her attempts except her holiday fudge.

​When she was in her early teens she took her first actual "job" in a candy store in Columbia, CA. The little village was once in the running to be the capital of California during the days of the gold rush. She grew up within walking distance of the candy store and so fell into a position as the "fudge girl."

​You may still visit Columbia and the candy store she worked in. Nothing has changed since those days when she was there except the clothes visiting patrons wear. The smells and delicious candies are all the same.

​As I grew up I could tell when Christmas was approaching by the scent of our home. When fudge took over my nose I knew that soon St Nick would be visiting. But don't tell mom this little secret.. I liked her fudge more than his gifts.
